Gastric Banding:
Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding, or (Lap banding), is a form of restrictive weight loss surgery. LAGB or lap banding is a minimally invasive surgery. There is no cutting or stapling involved, Making this weight loss surgery one of the safest and quickest to have.
Just like its cousin, Gastric Bypasses. LAGB is designed for morbidly obese patients with a body mass index (BMI) of 40 or greater—.This form of surgery is popular because it is not only used for weight loss. It is also used for other weight related illnesses. These illnesses include sleep apnea, diabetes, osteoarthritis, and metabolic syndrome, among others. Most patients have shown much improvement following this procedure.
Surgery:
The banding surgery will be performed while you are asleep under general anesthesia. An inflatable band is placed around the upper stomach to create a small pouch and narrow passage into the remainder of the stomach. This limits the amount of food that is consumed, therefore creating an earlier feeling of fullness. Complications may include nausea and vomiting, heartburn, abdominal pain, band slippage, or pouch enlargement.
Gastric:
Lap-Band patients, unlike the patients of Traditional Gastric Bypass, Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding patients can expect to lose their weight much slower. Usually in 1-2 years. The procedure is designed to encourage better eating habits. By adjusting the Lap-Band with no further surgery the meal size is easily controlled.
Band:
Once the band is in place, it is inflated with saline. The band is adjusted over time by increasing or decreasing the amount of salt solution to change the size of the passage. The band is intended to remain in place permanently, but it can be removed if necessary. People who get the band will need to diet and exercise in order to maintain their weight loss. The Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric band also restricts the stomach size and allows the patient to lose weight by consuming 3 small portions per day and feel satisfied between meals.
