Gastric bypass diet plan: One of the most important things you should do after this bypass procedure is to follow the post -surgery diet. Vitamins and Minerals are an important part of your daily regimen. After the 2 day fasting period, the post surgery Gastric bypass diet plan includes foods that are high in protein, and low in fat, fiber, calories, and sugar.

Foods that are high in protein have are good for you because they are satisfying and keep you full for a long time. Fat is also needed to keep the body fueled and less hungry, but the body only needs a small amount to fill this need. Fiber is also needed because it also fills you up and keeps you regular. The reason that you can only consume small amounts is because it is a bulking agent and will expand in your stomach which could cause serious complications. Consuming foods low in calories allows you to eat nutritious foods. Sugar Sugar and more Sugar. Everyone loves it, but no one needs it. It has no nutritional value whatsoever, just empty calories. A little bit of sugar is OK and wont spike insulin levels. Fiber, found in foods like bran, popcorn, raw vegetables, and dried beans, is also limited on the Gastric bypass diet plan. How do I Maintain my Diet? Fluids At every stage, it is important to prevent dehydration by drinking enough fluids. Tips for doing it right: Drink 1 cup of water or low-calorie beverage between each meal Fluids should add up to at least 48 ounces (6-8 ounce cups) per day. Drink slowly to avoid bloating. Make beverages last a half hour or more. Finish drinking 45 minutes to an hour before meals. The diet follows several stages, beginning with \"liquids only\" to small meals of soft, high-protein foods. Clear Liquids -- The first stage is clear liquids. (meaning beverages that you can almost see through) Avoid colas and carbonated drinks. Light broths and bullions are a nice choice. This stage usually lasts for a day or two after the operation. If no problems are experienced with clear liquids, you then will advance to high-protein liquids like diet Carnation Instant Breakfast™, Ensure, or Sustacal. (Nutritional drinks) These are Low-Fat Full Liquids -- Eating Right In all stages of the follow up diet, and the way to eat, is just as important as what to eat. The phases commonly followed by recovering patients in the following progression are: Liquids foods and fluids that are liquid or semi-liquid at room temperature and contain mostly water, such as broth, juice, milk, strained cream soup and cooked cereal. Finally, remember that most sweet and sugary foods may seem satisfying, but these foods dont satisfy the bodies need. This is why a person can easily put a way a whole chocolate cake and still want more. If you are craving sweets and eat a pear, most people can stop after eating just one. This is because you were able to satisfy your bodies need for something sweet but nutritious. Remember, sugary foods dont provide enough vitamins or minerals for the calories. So limit these empty calorie foods. To obtain success on the gastric bypass diet plan, it is vital that every food have the highest content of nutrients possible. Meeting with a registered dietitian who specializes in this type of diet, will not only contribute to your success, but will assist you through all of the phases. These professionals will assist you in creating meal plans, the types of foods to eat, and how to prepare them so that you have the correct portions and textures of the food you will be consuming. Adhering to the diet promotes healthy weight loss and a healthier way of eating. The main purpose of the gastric bypass diet plan in phases is to help in the healing process, minimize stress on surgical sites and allow time for your body to adapt to the new eating habits.
